ChasingEvil.org
Who is behind it and what is it really about?

ChasingEvil.org is the new name for what was called Hate Watch Hall of Shame (HateWatchHallofShame.blogspot.com), which is generally the ranting of a troubled personality calling himself the "Reverend Jim Sutter". The name is real, but the title is not. Being a Christian minister is one of many personal fantasies with which this very disturbed Cleveland, Ohio man attempts to impress gullible readers. In the past, Jim Sutter has claimed to be a Catholic minister with three earned PhD's. He has said that he is an ex-Navy Seal who earned the Navy Cross and four Purple Hearts over a distinguished 26-year career. He has even claimed to be fluent in eleven languages! All of this is false, of course (for details see PhonyRev.com). Sutter is actually a twice-convicted felon and a greedy con artist. He has served time in prison for repeatedly swindling people out of money (even while claiming to be a Christian clergyman). One of his more shameful schemes was to solicit victims of depression, rape and other psychological trauma by fraudulently claiming to be a licensed, professional counselor. He also has a documented history of conning people with disabilities. Sutter's latest gimmick is his "Chasing Evil" blog, in which he abuses the very serious issues of race and bigotry merely for the purpose of self-promotion and the pursuit of petty grievances against those who have exposed him as a fraud. He interweaves articles "borrowed" from newswires that concern neo-Nazis and true racists with articles of his own attacking those who have nothing to do with either racism or violence (other than to openly condemn it). As of late, Sutter has become popular among the "anti-hate" blog circuit, particularly among pro-Islamic organizations, such as CAIR and LoonWatch. His defamation of others has been promoted by these organizations, which appear to appreciate an opportunity to spread lies about their critics, even if they might shy away at making up such whoppers themselves. Not surprisingly, Sutter's "co-editor", MT Akbar, is also an activist for CAIR One of Sutter and Akbar's techniques is to falsely accuse others of crimes. Often they publish phony lists of criminal indictments, which Sutter claims to have received from "sources" inside the federal government. On May 6, 2008 Chasing Evil posted a bogus list of 19 very serious criminal counts against Jeanette Runyon, a private citizen in North Carolina. The list included "human trafficking," a charge which Sutter has continued to repeat largely for effect. In fact, there was no truth to any of what was printed on Chasing Evil. There was never any human trafficking charge against Ms. Runyon. Each of the other charges were fabricated as well. The underlying incident involved a class B misdemeanor that was clearly based on erroneous legal advice. Sutter and Akbar haves made similar false allegations of bogus criminal charges and convictions against others. In March of 2009, they pretended that there was an IRS investigation of "Muslims against Sharia". Lists of fictitious criminal charges and convictions against over a half dozen other innocent persons have appeared on Chasing Evil as well, including Sean Drake, Walid Shoebat, John LaTemple and Boris Prabich. In 2009, they even claimed that that an Atlanta businessman named "Peter Oliver" had "55 criminal convictions" (which does not even seem humanly possible). Of course, other than Walid Shoebat (a confessed former Palestinian terrorist turned born-again Christian), none of the individuals defamed by Sutter and Akbar have criminal records in the United States. Creating bogus criminal accusations is an old habit of Sutter's. In 1991, he pled guilty to lying to the FBI and having an innocent person arrested on false charges. ChasingEvil.org's only true agenda is to punish Sutter's personal enemies under the guise of fighting "hate." The few pieces of original writing on the site usually serve this purpose, and are laughable in terms of journalistic quality. In June of 2009, he published a lengthy rant against a private investigator in Florida who happened to share the same name as the spokesperson for the Center for the Study of Political Islam. Sutter alleged that they were the same person, even though they obviously are not. Fact-checking is of no concern to Sutter and Akbar. They have claimed, for example that Muslims are more likely to be victims of hate crime in the US than any other group - when, in fact, Jewish-Americans suffer 70% of such attacks, according to the FBI. The true victims of Chasing Evil's phony campaign against "hate" are really just those who have exposed the lies that Jim Sutter has told about himself, as well as website operators who refused to yield to the ideological demands of organization's like CAIR. The otherwise impotent con artist and his co-editor routinely slur all of their personal enemies as "racists" or "white supremacists" and pathologically harass their businesses with McCarthyite tactics. In 2007, Sutter engaged in a campaign of intimidation and censorship that was briefly supported by the Web's largest censorware providers, SonicWall and Secure Computing. Although he is very good at initially fooling people into thinking that he is sincere, Sutter has a very curious personal history of hostility and harassment against Muslims, African-Americans, and particularly anyone advocating on behalf of Africans. His inability to get along with minorities may have been the reason for his early exit from the Navy (after less than 8 months) and it played a strong role in his having gotten fired from the Better Business Bureau in 1990. He has even been known to tell falsehoods in order to shut down websites campaigning against racial genocide in Darfur! Though not as much is known about MT Akbar's background, he seems to share Sutter's antipathy for people of African descent. Akbar has adamantly refused to condemn racial cleansing of Blacks in the Sudan, for example. Like Sutter, he apparently justifies the genocide as "necessary" on the part of the Arab government. In Sutter's case, he attacks others merely because of how he feels about himself. His lack of accomplishment, morbid obesity and understandably low sense of self-worth cause him to act out like a child, trying to tear down what others have built simply because the poor choices that he made in life have left him with absolutely no hope of anything better. ChasingEvil.org is a con game. It is not worth taking seriously because Jim Sutter is not a sincere person. The integrity of any organization that takes this man seriously or promotes his work should be highly suspect. For more information on the person behind "Chasing Evil," please see PhonyRev.com. |
